HOW TO MEASURE
To determine the correct size of your Curtain Panel or Valance you will need the following basic measurements:
Width of window ( Measured Left to Right)
Length of window (Measured Top to Bottom)
Width
For outside mount treatments:
Measure the width of the window (including the trim if any) and add 3 inches on each side. The total ( actual width of window + 6 inches ) will determine the point of placement for your rod brackets.
We suggest you double this number to determine the width of your curtains for double fullness.
For example: If the actual width of your window is 38" then 38 inches + 6 inches = 44 inches would be the point of placement for the rod brackets. Any curtain that is more than 44 inches wide would fit this window but for a nicer fuller look we suggest that the curtain be at least 88 inches wide (double fullness)
For inside mount treatments:
Measure the width of the window from the inside. We suggest you double this number to determine the width of your curtains for double fullness.
For example: If the actual width of your window is 38" then any curtain that is more than 38 inches wide would fit this window but for a nicer fuller look we suggest that the curtain be at least 46 inches wide (double fullness)
Length
Length can be measured in the same way for inside or outside mount treatments.
Measure your window from top (including the trim if any) to bottom of the trim making sure to go below the window sill. This will determine the length of your window.
Add 3 inches to this measurement at the top to determine the height at which you will place the rod.
However the length of the actual curtain depends on your personal preference ie how much below the window sill would you like your curtains to hang. There is no right or wrong measurements for this just personal preference. The length could range anywhere from just below the window sill to the floor. More length can be added if you like your curtains puddled at the bottom. Most curtains have standard lengths as 24", 30", 36", 40" for tiers and 54", 63", 72", 84" for panels.
